How the Loch Ness Tour from Edinburgh Works

Four steps from Castle Terrace to Loch Ness, Glencoe, the Hairy Coos and back.

  1. Meet at Castle Terrace

Find your driver-guide on Castle Terrace, Edinburgh EH1 2EW — outside the NCP Car Park, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. Departure is early morning so the coach can reach the Highlands before crowds arrive at Glencoe.

  2. Coffee Stop in Callander & Hairy Coos

Roll out of Edinburgh past Linlithgow Palace, the Kelpies and Stirling Castle, then stop for coffee in Callander — gateway to the Trossachs. Watch for the famous 'hairy coos' (Highland cattle) along the roadside before the road climbs north.

  3. Photo Break at Glencoe's Three Sisters

Pull into Glencoe Valley — Scotland's most photographed glen, scene of the 1692 massacre and home to the three towering ridges of Bidean nam Bian. You'll have time for photos and a walk into one of the most cinematic landscapes in Britain.

  4. Loch Ness, Fort Augustus & Return

Onward to Fort William, then north along the Great Glen to Loch Ness at Fort Augustus. Add an optional boat cruise and Urquhart Castle ticket on the day, then return south to Edinburgh — roughly 12.5 hours door-to-door.

What Highland Day-Trip Guests Say

5/5 from 18553 verified Edinburgh travellers

"Biggest and best tour to book when wanting to visit the Highlands, we had Brian as tour guide and couldn't wish for a better tour guide, he got us everywhere safely while giving us a lot of information and jokes. Most of the tour you will be on the bus but with Brian and Scottish music it won't be boring at all. 10/10 would recommend"

"Highly recommend! The snowy weather was a bit unfortunate as it caused some delays and made for some poor visibility at times…however, that was absolutely made up for by our tour guide + driver Jamie! Both funny and knowledgeable, he entertained us for about 14 hours, alternating between interesting/fun stories and a solid playlist 👌🏻 great way to cover a lot of Scottish ground, we’ll definitely be back again 😃"

"Had an incredible day with Lee and Brian. From start to finish Lee provided laughs, energy and knowledge of the Scottish highlands. Brian was a superb driver in very harsh conditions, and at no point did we feel unsafe. Even with a few disruptions due to weather, this tour is a 100% worth it and can’t be missed."
